Serger club - scarf/belt

We made scarves again at serger club. This one is cut on the bias, I started with 1 1/3 yards and cut a six inch width on the fold. The beads were on a ribbon, so really easy to insert. I was introduced to wash away Wonder Tape, it did do a wonderful job of holding the bead tape in place while I stitched it.

I wore the scarf as a belt and it worked out fine. I purchased more the the fabric thinking that I might want to make something to match this scarf/belt. No definite plans for that yet.

Serger Club - pillow case

Serger club project last week was a pillow case. This project gave me fits. I guess I still need experience with the 3 thread rolled edge. I actually did the rolled edge on the wrong side when I connected the two pieces of lace, this became a "design element". Then I gave up when I had finished a whole line of sewing only to see that I had about 12 inches that had "escaped". Ripping out rolled edge is not easy and as I was ripping out the escaped hole kept getting larger. The instructor actually finished the repair for me. So, after her efforts I felt compelled to finish the project at home. It turned out nicely, but believe me this pillow case will not be getting a mate!

Serger Club - first project

I have joined a local serger club at my nearest Viking store. The pattern used was a Ribbon Scarf created by Kothy Hafersat. http://www.kothysews.com/
This class allowed practice with the rolled edge. Using poly yarn thread in the upper looper is the key to a nice edge. I think the beads on the edge are fun.
