Red Bag and a personalized label

I ordered my very own set of personalized labels to put into my creations. I especially wanted to get these to put into the items that I give as gifts or donate. I ordered them from Sterling Name Tape Company. They took awhile to be delivered, but they are really nice.

Here is a picture of my label in a bag that I made for my sister Bonnie. She loves red and gave me a red zipper, so I decided to make her a carry bag with a nice zipper pocket. The fabrics are some of the vintage scraps that I have and some red clown fabric. In memory of our mom Audrey, aka Suzie the Love Clown. I can just hear how she would giggle to see this bag.

Here's to taking credit for one's work and being proud enough to make it tangible.

Pincushions

I just love these little pin cushion projects. Quick, creative, and something that can be put to use right away. The instructions for the cube and the round pincushion can be found on Stephanie Sews blogspot. The link is just below.

Vintage, recycle - Zip pouch for knitting tools

I purchased a box of vintage fabric pieces, all very small, at an antique shop. I needed a pouch for knitting tools so put together this one. The pink and black is the vintage piece. Rick rack is also very old, from a box my sister's son found in his garage. I have quite a few old zippers that I have inherited from older women's stashes, note that this Apple Green 20 inch zipper originally cost 65 cents.
I love using old, neglected materials in my projects. Recycle, recreate. New, but connected to women who came before.

A big thank you to Anna Tolborg for posting her zipper tutorial. www.twelve22.org/2006/07/zipper_tutorial.html

Back surgery dish cloths

I was done with the scarf and needed some portable project work. I pulled out some cotton yarn from my stash and found a pattern to make up some dishcloths. This Grandmother's Favorite pattern can be found at http://www.jimsyldesign.com/~dishbout/kpatterns/knitting.html

My sister Karen helped me decipher the instructions, add a few hours waiting and voila, new dishcloths. David's surgery went very well, what a relief. We look forward to more regular activities in the near future. A relaxing stroll in the neighborhood will be a real treat.

Serger Club - first project

I have joined a local serger club at my nearest Viking store. The pattern used was a Ribbon Scarf created by Kothy Hafersat. http://www.kothysews.com/
This class allowed practice with the rolled edge. Using poly yarn thread in the upper looper is the key to a nice edge. I think the beads on the edge are fun.

Knitting refresher - Wool Scarf

I decided to refresh my knitting skills while shopping for a gift for my daughter in law, Sarah, at http://www.knittersmercantile.com/. The staff person recommended a pattern by Ann Norling. I made the garter/rib scarf with Lamb's Pride Worsted, 85% wool/15% mohair yarn. The color is one of my favorites, a blue-green, this one is called Persian Peacock.
Sarah helped me with the casting on and reading the directions and adjusting for a wider version. Thanks Sarah, it's great to have a knitting coach in the family. The end result is seen here, a gift for David. He seems very pleased with this warm, warm scarf.

Jammie pants

I made my husband and I each a pair of flannel jammy pants. Simplicity pattern 9871, very easy. Mine are my favorite candy, David's a plaid that he picked out. Very soft and comfy.

Getting started

Hello, my intention is to use this venue to share my hand made projects. Mostly sewing. I am trying to figure out how to upload photos. Bear with me as I struggle with how to do this...
